The nature of a mind, it’s belief in and awareness of other minds and it’s to impinge in distressing and imaginative ways on others is a philosophic mystery. The human mind seems to resist categorising and its investigation cannot be placed amongst the conventional physical sciences. Nevertheless, we all have one – or are one – and it remains a fascination to anyonewho has the capacity to ask questions with curiosity.

The forthcoming book in the list just above this item was sparked into being by an invitation by Ricky Williamson, of the Institute of Arts and Ideas, who suggested a topic could be the question; How can we test for consciousness? This touched palpably on the philosophical ‘hard problem’. It led to my reflection on the mirroring function of representation, the internal image of the external reality. However where human consciousness is unique and goes beyond animals and computers is that, included in our range of representations, is a representation of ourselves as the representer,
